Google Panda Algorithm Explained Each Detail

Understanding the behavior of google panda algorithm is very important in order to understand the reason behind on-page SEO techniques. Google rolls out a lot of algorithms to improve the quality of the search results pages. One such algorithm is the google panda algorithm.

Here in this article, I have tried to explain on-page SEO techniques by explaining the google panda. We will try to find what Google wants from its publishers by releasing Panda algorithm.

Why Google felt the necessity to create Google panda

To understand Google panda it is very important to know what were the problems that led to the creation of google panda.

Back in 2009 when google updated its indexing algorithm to “caffeine”. it indexed a lot of thin, invaluable content into Google. Because this new indexing algorithm was very fast. Therefore it was crawling and indexing new webpages faster than the older one.

Now taking advantage of this vulnerability a lot of websites begin publishing a huge amount of thin content on a daily basis. As a result of this these websites ranked to the top positions. Therefore these websites were making a lot of money by showing ads on their pages without providing value to the visitors. Their sole purpose was to make money by fooling Google however possible.

These type of websites came to be known as “content farm”. Content farming means hiring low wages freelance writers to write on the topics that were getting more searches. Contents were written ignoring the quality and value.

In this way, Google was not able to provide quality to its users. Internet became less trustworthy. Therefore it became a necessity to introduce an algorithm like google panda.

Creation of Google Panda Algorithm

Now we are familiar with the problem, it is important to know how the foundations of google panda were laid.

However, Google never reveals what factors they exactly considered while creating google panda but they provide us a rough idea of included factors.

In an interview, Google’s Amit Singhal explained how they started to create google panda. He said that they created a list of questions. they founded key quality factors using answers to these questions. This questionnaire consists of 23 questions. Some of these questions are as follows.

  • Does this article have spelling, factual, or stylistic errors?
  • Are you comfortable of giving your credit card information to this website?
  • Does this site contain duplicate, overlapping, and thin content?
  • Can you give medicines to your child prescribed by this website?
  • Does the site generate content by attempting to guess what might rank well in search engines or by the genuine interest of readers? Etc.

They formed the base of the algorithm on the basis of the answers they got.

Aim of releasing Google panda

A lot of invaluable, thin, and duplicate contents were getting indexed. Hence people were not getting something useful by using Google. Original valuable pieces of information were not reaching to the searchers.

Let’s look at the aims of releasing Google Panda Algorithm.

To increase better user experience

One of the main reason for releasing this Google algorithm is to increase better user experience. Better user experience can lead to the return of the information consumer. The consumer will use the search engine which is providing him websites having a better user interface.

To increase trust among users

Increasing trust among users is very important if you want them to use the internet. A lot of duplications decreased user trust. This impacted the popularity and dignity of Google. Hence Google thought to release this.

To erase defame

Google was showing duplicate content in its search engine results pages. Therefore this became the reason for defamation of Google. Hence google wanted to erase this defame as soon as possible.

To create web a better place

Internet is useless if it provides a duplicate, thin content to the users. Since Google is the most used search engine, therefore, changes in its algorithm will affect the internet significantly. Hence google panda was released with the intent to penalize low-quality websites.

Impact of Google Panda Algorithm

Google Panda was one of the major algorithmic change. Therefore it cast a significant impact over search results ranking. It impacted almost 12% of search results which is a huge change.

Websites like Demand Media faced a huge decline in their business.

Most importantly it does not only affected content farming websites but some innocent blogs also. Hence blogs which were following Googles guidelines of that period also got hit. Initially, Google Panda worked as a filter algorithm. But today it is incorporated into the googles core algorithm.

How to avoid Google Panda penalty

In this section, I want to discuss how we can avoid Google Panda Penalty. Avoiding Google Panda Penalty means following the guidelines of Google. Also, I want to clarify some of the existing misconceptions of Google Panda.

Let’s discuss the key points in detail.

Create correct and trustworthy content

Your posts and articles should be written properly. You have to make sure that your content should not have spelling mistakes. It should be free of factual and grammatical mistakes. Each of the data and the fact you are mentioning in your blog posts should be correct. It should be from authentic and trustworthy sources. You have to win the trust of your readers. This will increase the authority of your website.

Your website should be secure with SSL certificate

A proper SSL certificate makes your customers feel free to share their sensitive details. By sensitive details, I mean credit/debit card details. Even Google has made it mandatory for every website owner to have an SSL certificate installed on your website.

This will improve your ranking. It will also keep you safe from google panda.

Neat and clean layout

Your website layout should be neat and clean. The website should look professional. Also by neat and clean, I mean that your website should have a good ad to text Balance. If you participate in any kind of affiliate programme then affiliate links to text ratio should be balanced.

Overall your website should not be only for making money. It should also satisfy user intent.

Avoid duplicate content

Here I want to make it clear that some people think that Google panda is about duplicate content. But Google’s Jhon Muller says that Google panda penalty and duplicate content penalty are two different things. Both are independent of each other.

In fact, Google panda is more complex than the duplicate content issue. It considers issues more than duplicate content.

You should avoid duplicate content from any other website. Because it is one of the many factors that Google Panda Considers.

Sometimes the term original content seems a bit confusing. So I want to make it clear here. Original content does not mean that you can not mentions the facts and descriptions that others are mentioning. It means you have to put your understanding on that topic. You may use the data and properties others are using.

Also, it will be good if you add some of your unique experience about the topic. Adding your experience about the topic raises your reader’s faith in you. But it is not mandatory if you don’t have any experience simply put your understanding in your post.

Duplicate content can be of two types:

  • Internal duplicate content
  • External duplicate content

Internal duplicate contents or pages dilute traffic on each page of your website.

External duplicate content can penalize you and your ranking can drop in SERPs.

Since e-commerce websites have a lot of filter category showing the same item. Therefore duplicate content can be a major issue for e-commerce websites. Using a Canonical tag can help to sort out this problem.

Create high-quality user-generated content

Many of us consider that user-generated content can get us punished by Google Panda. But this is not the case. For example, consider quora, in fact, the entire concept of quora is based on user-generated content.

High-Quality user-generated content can rank well in google. But the criteria is that it should provide value to users.

Make sure you check all the content before publishing it on your website.

For online forums, many experts advise to no-index pages which contain only questions but no answers.

Google panda checks each page individually

Many people believe that having a few duplicate pages on your site can lower the ranking of your entire website. But this is not the case. Google panda checks each page of your website separately. But this does not mean that I am favoring duplicate content. Your every page should be original.

Note: If you are having more duplicate pages than the original ones, then your entire website will seem to be losing rank.

In the concluding texts, I want to state that all the updates that took place in the past were to increase the quality of the content. Updates which will take place in the future will also have the same intention from search engine. Therefore we should always try to give our best to curate content. Create content t gain trust authority and fame not only money. By doing show you will remain safe from any future update. this will help you in the long run of your website.
